FALL GARDENING TIPS

Gardening in Central Oregon can be a challenge, but with a few tips from the OSU Extension office you can make the most of fall.
September
Dig up potatoes when the tops die down; aerate lawns; plant trees, shrubs, and perennials; plant daffodils, tulips and crocus for spring bloom.
October
Harvest and store apples; plant garlic for next summer; mulch flowers, berries, and rhubarb; plant ground cover and shrubs.
November
Use a cold frame for winter vegetables; rake and compost leaves; tie limbs of upright evergreens to prevent breakage from snow/ice; leave ornamental grasses up in winter (cut back in early spring).
